Reading has always been an incredibly enjoyable part of my life 🙂 From my childhood books of “Spot” to Enid Blyton’s “Famous Five” series to the many novels that currently cover my shelves, I have and always will be an avid lover of the written word (I can’t even say I mind reading the tv subtitles as Ben works hard at his song writing). As of this moment reading takes up the majority of my day as I am studying my rear end off for the American Nursing board license exam aka the dreaded NCLEX. Making my way steadily through the manual seems to be taking a lifetime but it shall all be over soon…homestretch baby! What is incredible is my love of reading has not diminished with this intense study session as I spend many of my evenings reading blogs, posting to my own, catching up on the most recent Macleans or grabbing a new novel that will transport me into another world.
The most recent read I completed was called “Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia”. Wow can you say intense, deep, thought provoking and empowering. This young woman, a royal princess currently living in Saudi Arabia, had an author read her diaries, listen to her story and then meticulously document her life for the world to read…a life-threatening venture to say the least. Her honest story speaks of courage and hope even though injustice flows as swiftly as the oil of their lands. It describes the strong leaders willing to move forward with social change and those who hold it back and subject their countrymen and women to a life of confinement under religious law set by man. These ‘women in black’ are often misunderstood and they often misunderstand our culture but this book is educating, eye opening yet heartbreaking and really drew my heart towards the women of Arabia.
I finished it in a weekend and savoured the taste of reading for luxury as the next little while will be devoted to, you guessed it, ole buddy NCLEX text.
