Hahahaha early this morning we woke to a squeaking and a scurrying and a heart pounding realization. Bella, our precious Bella had brought a live tiny mouse into our bed. It all happened so quickly and being an animal lover I was in peril….well not really but at 5AM I did not want to be dealing with this.
As soon as I noticed the black blur jetting over the covers with Bella close behind I whipped the blanket over it and jumped to my feet with Ben following very shorty after. I first noticed how cold I was standing in front of the fan in very little and just wanting this to be over so I could crawl back into my warm nest I had made. But currently that nest was the set for a real life cat and mouse and I was not entering back in until rodents were cut for the scene.
Ben’s first thought, which was a good but sad one involved releasing the duvet trap and letting Bella at it. I could not stand the thought of this outcome and immediately ran to the kitchen to grab a bowl and a book. The salad bowl and Chris Tomlin piano book were the first to be grabbed and the extricating of the little guy began.
Slowly lifting the covers to reveal the mouse allowed me enough time to cover him with the bowl…yes the fan was still blowing argh….sliding Chris gently under the bowl making sure mister mouse walked on top of him was a dainty procedure as he was such a little dude and I didn’t want him escaping under any crack I mistakenly made. The book was completely under and I had him! Ben grabbed the door, we both got outside and delivered our package to the grass. He was frozen on the book and I had to urge him with a shake to jump off but all went well. Now Ben and I were left standing outside with very little on holding a salad bowl and a piano book at 5AM hardly processing our latest adventure and praying no one drove past on their way to the coffee shop.
Back inside and back in bed Ben was sure that the mouse had left fleas which were currently jumping all over his body and making him itchy. I was only able to hear the birds outside which left me wide eyed and tense everytime I mistook a chirp for a squeak. The mental shenanigans continued until heavy eyelids overcame the triggers that tensed us.
Ahhh what a night, what an adventure, great things happen in life that can only make you laugh…after the fact.
Thank you Bella for the gift.
